If you can’t afford a proper PLB this is the next best thing. As long as someone knows your itinerary and can inform search and rescue that you’re missing. This recco transponder will aid search and rescue crews find you quicker when used with a recco finder.

Got this for my son who is an avid hiker. Product was highly recommended. It is much smaller than I anticipated, but supposedly this reflector does not “expire” and needs no other equipment, such as a power supply/recharging. It will get used, but hopefully it will never be needed. Highly recommend for anyone enjoying wilderness or in unfamiliar areas.

If you ski in avalanche area (even resort ski), hike, snowmobile or participate in high risk back country sports you need one of these. A lot of clothing/gear come with RECCO built in but if not, buy one of these, it could save your life or at the very least locate your body. Thankfully I’ve never had to use mine and hope I never do. But, there have been local people/bodies who have been located via their RECCO device. Do your family a favor and just get it.
