I have used several of these bladders in the past but this on had a leak on the bladder where the blue back support attaches to it. I recorded a second one and it had the same leak.
Very disappointing because we didn’t discover it until we were ready to hike.

My only complaint about Osprey bladders has always been the design, specifically, the curved plastic piece for filling, and carrying the reservoir. It’s worked okay, but in terms of ergonomics, I felt as though I had to be extra careful when filling it out in the wild from spigots or water fountains. This version addressed these issues. These are very noticeable improvements, including: A more ergonomic carry handle, which makes the reservoir much easier to refill, carry, load, and remove from a pack; the new bite valve is much easier and quicker to operate with one hand, on a MTB which has never been easy with the past generation; and the hose clip/sternum strap magnetic is marginally stronger than on the previous ones. In terms of the reservoir size 3L is huge so if you are upgraded a smaller bladder understand that this will add bulk to already valuable real estate. In my opinion, if you’re looking for a higher volume reservoir for longer duration activities, this is an excellent choice.

I’ve been a big fan of hydration bladders since I tried them while in the military in 1992 (way before they were issued) and have had quite a few over the years.
The original 3L bladder that came with my Osprey pack had some shortcomings. This redesign solved most of them.
The drinking hose can stay routed through the pack and strap while the bladder can be detached and removed to fill. That speeds up refills immensely.
The bite valve shutoff can now be used with just your thumb instead of needing two hands to twist the old style. Also, the body of the valve on the old style would split after a year or 2 and leak.
The magnetic holder now has a raised lip around the magnet, pretty much eliminating accidental knock offs of the hose (big issue with first gen).
The bladder body material is much thinner and more pliable than the original, making it easier to get in and out of your pack and lighter in weight. I’m a little concerned about the longevity and it’s puncture resistance, but it should be covered with the lifetime warranty if anything happens (I’ve only needed to utilize it a few times, but they’re hands down the easiest company to work with).
The zip top makes filling much easier than the larger circle on the old style packs.
The plastic taste is a bit heavy on first use, so I’d highly recommend cleaning and rinsing it a few times first.
Standard hydration bladder hangers work with this too. I was concerned about the open top being too wide, but it works fine.
It’s on par with the Platypus big zip bladders (which they heavily borrowed from the design of in this reboot) and is priced similarly as well.
Is it better than a Platy? I can’t say add they both have pros and cons, but this is a solid unit from a great company. Go for it.

I know that people have mentioned having issues with these water bladders in the past, but I haven’t had any issues so far, and I’ve used it for a few hundred miles at this point. I love the size of the bladder, because it means I can carry a good amount of water and reduce stopping during my hikes. The bite valve works well, and there’s not any weird rubbery flavor to speak of. The top opening makes it easy to clean, too, which is a huge plus. I’d say that this is one of the better water bladders on the market.

Da molti anni utilizzo come sistema di idratazione per trekking e mtb, quando le classiche borracce risultano scomode, le sacche idriche, la prima è stata una Hydrapak circa 25 anni fa, poi Dueter, Camelback e adesso Osprey.
Conosco il marchio Osprey per i validi zaini ed ero incuriosito dai loro sistemi di idratazione per alcune soluzioni interessanti che li distinguono dalla produzione usuale e così grazie ad un’ottimo prezzo praticato da Amazon ho colto l’occasione ed ho acquistato la sacca da 3 litri Hydraulics Reservoir.
La sacca è contenuta in un involucro esterno in cartone dove sono riportate le principali caratteristiche (tra le quali BPA & PVC free), capacità 3 litri, le dimensioni di 43,25×19,5×1 cm e il peso 236 g (rilevato 248 g).
Il produttore su disegno e specifiche Osprey è HydraPak (quello della mia prima sacca idrica) Oakland, CA, USA, Made in China; il modello è comunque esclusivo per Osprey, non l’ho visto nel catalogo HydraPak.
La prima impressione è molto buona: la costruzione ed i materiali sono di ottimo livello e sembrano poter essere duraturi, tutto è ben studiato e nell’uso risulta pratico e funzionale.
L’apertura per introdurre i liquidi superiore presenta due lembi rettilinei che poi si ripiegano tra loro e vengono chiusi tramite una barra scorrevole, non ha un tappo circolare a vite come quello della mia Camelback, è simile alla Dueter.
Ho trovato il sistema estremamente funzionale e pratico, dopo il riempimento con l’acqua è molto facile chiudere la sacca, anche grazie alla pratica maniglia superiore che consente di reggere bene la sacca con una mano e chiudere la barra di chiusura scorrevole con l’altra; la barra scorre molto facilmente ha un pratico cavetto di trattenuta e la tenuta è perfetta, non ci sono fuoriuscite di liquido.
Nella barra di chiusura è presente un foro centrale per fissare superiormente la sacca ai ganci o fettucce presenti negli appositi scomparti degli zaini, ma, grazie alla piastra in di irrigidimento che ne facilita l’inserimento, il fissaggio può essere non necessario e spesso la metto dentro alla scomparto senza bloccarla rimanendo in posizione ugualmente.
La valvola da utilizzare per bere funziona benissimo, il flusso si può regolare fino ad arrivare alla chiusura e la forza necessaria per aspirare l’acqua è minima consentendo di bere anche col fiatone sotto sforzo.
Il tubo flessibile con la valvola per bere ha un innesto fisso sulla sacca, poi dopo circa 32 cm è presente un attacco rapido che connette la parte di tubo con la valvola per bere, questa ha una lunghezza di circa 72 cm (compresa valvola).
Il sistema di fissaggio intermedio del tubo risulta molto utile (mi pare sia per il momento esclusivo di Osprey) e consente di lasciare fissa sullo spallaccio dello zaino la porzione di tubicino con valvola senza doverla ogni volta sganciare e ripassare nell’apposito foro e potere così rimuovere facilmente la sacca idrica per il riempimento ed eventuale pulizia.
La valvola per bere può essere fissata magneticamente allo spallaccio dove risulta più comoda, il magnete ha una placca che consente un buon fissaggio alle fettucce degli spallacci e la forza di trattenuta è molto buona, la valvola è sempre ben fissa.
Il serbatoio idrico è in materiale plastico (polietilene per alimenti) esente da BPA e PVC, appena aperta la sacca ha un lieve odore di plastica, ho fatto una pulizia iniziale con acqua e detersivo per piatti, poi acqua e bicarbonato, vari risciacqui e poi riempita con Amuchina diluita in acqua e lasciata così per circa due ore quindi ulteriori risciacqui; alla fine della pulizia non mi sembra ci siano odori particolari, dopo vari usi inizia a “prendere” l’odore dei sali minerali che abitualmente sciolgo (come per tutte le altre sacche e borracce che uso)
Riassumendo ho trovato questa sacca idrica molto funzionale e pratica, materiali di qualità ed ottima costruzione; ci sono numerosi dettagli ben studiati che fanno la differenza: il sistema di apertura scorrevole facilissimo da usare, lo schienale rigido che permette un facile inserimento negli zaini (volendo si può evitare il fissaggio superiore), l’ottima valvola che consente di bere con minimo sforzo, il tubo flessibile con innesto rapido intermedio che permette di togliere rapidamente la sacca dallo zaino mantenendo fissa la parte terminale del tubo con valvola sullo spallaccio.
Per fare i pignoli avrei preferito un’apertura superiore più larga di circa 2 cm per entrare meglio con la mano quando si fa la pulizia con le apposite spazzole (ho però mani grandi taglia guanti XL-XXL), sempre riguardo alla pulizia non è possibile pulire la prima parte di tubicino flessibile con gli appositi scovolini in quando da una parte è fissato saldamente alla sacca e dall’altra c’è una piccola griglia sullo sgancio rapido che ne impedisce il passaggio, si sarebbe potuto ovviare prevedendo un sistema di sgancio rapido con pulsante anche nel punto di attacco con la sacca (per pulire bene occorre staccare il tubicino dopo averlo scaldato con aria calda e phon).

Fatta con grande accuratezza, internamente presenta una ‘lingua’ che mantiene distanziate a dovere anche quando piena le due superfici della sacca.
Sapore in linea con il fatto che è fatta di materiale plastico.
Chiusura e maniglia per il riempimento fatte a regola d’arte.
Il valore dell’attacco a calamita del tubicino può essere compreso solo dopo averlo provato: dopo non è puo possibile farne senza perche elimina il continuo dondolio nei casi in cui manca.
Unico neo se proprio vogliamo trovarne uno, è l’imboccatura di riempimento che è abbastanza piccola e se avete le mani non piccolissime è impossibile poter asciugare dal di dentro la sacca.

This hydration bladder is great overall. More expensive than it needs to be for sure, because it’s Osprey’s proprietary bladder that works exclusively with their bags (*eye roll*) but it DOES have some unique and good qualities that other bladders don’t have. I appreciate that the straw hose can be disconnected from the bladder itself so I don’t have to unthread it from my pack every time I want I fill up, GREAT for longer or multi-day hikes. The rigid back is also helpful for keeping it in a low profile shape and for stuffing into a full pack. I wish the handle were attached in a more obviously secure way, it seems to have been heat bonded and along the top edge of the handle the bladder had actually bonded to itself as well as to the handle, I peeled the bag away from itself and seems to fine other than I slight mark from where it had been fused to itself, but the fact that it had bonded to itself and needed to be peeled away at all is slightly concerning. The handle feels secure but the fact that there is no VISIBLE mechanical connection feels kind of sloppy for the price of the bladder, and the fact that the interior that had been accidentally heat bonded could be peeled away leads me to believe that the handle will eventually also peel away…That said, the bag is still totally usable, and better than any other bladder I’ve ever used, it’s just disappointing for the price, and even if the handle DOES eventually peel always from the main bag, it wasn’t really a selling point for me to begin with and the bag would still be totally useable for my needs

Bought this for my first trip to Yosemite, it was fantastic! My first time using a bladder so had to figure out how to clean it (mainly confused on how to let it dry since it doesn’t stay “open”) but otherwise super convenient and easy to use. Wish it came with a mouthpiece cover though.
